Getting the shot

As a photographer, I am always up for an adventure whenever there is an opportunity to capture breath-taking moments in nature.

One of the most memorable experiences I had was when I had the chance to photograph an image that I had been dreaming of for several months. It was an image that couldn't be planned or rehearsed, but rather was a product of a spontaneous moment that I was fortunate enough to be a part of.

I often end my desert trips with a visit to the Oryx out in the Al Qudra deserts of Dubai. As I was preparing to leave, I looked down the perfectly straight section of tarmac and saw a single Oryx moving to cross. I knew this could be it, and I took out my camera armed with a 135mm lens.

I positioned myself just in time to get a single frame. Capturing "The Crossing", I felt my heart pounding with excitement. But the incredible moment didn't end there. To my right, I saw another Arabian Oryx following the same path, followed by two more. As they moved across the hot tarmac, I calmed myself, double-checked all my settings, and waited for the perfect moment.

Then, "Together" happened. It was the moment they all aligned in even spacing and I clicked a single frame with perfect timing. These two images, "The Crossing" and "Together", are amongst my favourites. They were the result of several months of trying and were worth every effort.

In conclusion, there are many moments waiting to be captured in the Dubai desert, especially if you're passionate and patient. With a blend of adventure and dedication to your craft, you too can capture unforgettable moments like I did.
